Ties for Women: How to Wear the Trend of the Season
The tie is no longer a men-only accessory. It has been on the runways of Celine, Saint Laurent, Prada, Ralph Lauren and Burberry, on red carpets and all over street style, and fashion magazines have named it one of the key accessories of 2026 for women too. After more than 50 years making ties by hand in Barcelona, we can confirm it: more and more of our ties end up on women. This is our guide to wearing one.
Is there a difference between a men's and a women's tie?
Not really. A tie is a tie: the only thing that changes is how it is styled. If you are petite, a tie of 7 to 8 cm wide will look more balanced than a very wide one, and you can tie the knot a little higher so the tip falls at the waist of your trousers or skirt. All our silk ties are 8 to 9 cm wide, the classic mid-width shape.
5 ways to wear a tie
1. White shirt and blazer
The most classic and the easiest to get right: crisp white shirt buttoned up, a black or navy tie, and an oversized blazer. With straight jeans for every day, or with tailored trousers for the office. A solid black silk tie is the safest place to start.
2. Loosely knotted, the relaxed way
The knot slightly loose and the top button open, as seen on the runways and at fashion weeks. It works with a denim or striped shirt and makes the tie look effortless rather than formal.
3. Under a jumper or a waistcoat
The preppy look: shirt, tie and a fine-knit jumper or knitted waistcoat on top, so only the collar and the knot show. With a pleated skirt or wide trousers. This is the moment for a pattern: polka dots or a micro pattern.
4. Tone-on-tone
Shirt and tie in shades of the same colour: light blue and navy, pink and burgundy, grey and grey. It is one of the strongest trends of the season and looks especially elegant on women. We explain it in the tone-on-tone tie trend.
5. A suit, all the way
For an event or a wedding, a two-piece suit with a shirt and a silk tie is a powerful, elegant alternative to a dress. Choose a tie with some colour or sheen: see our wedding ties.
Which tie to choose
- To start: a solid black or navy tie. It goes with everything.
- With personality: polka dots, paisley or a printed motif, like our novelty ties.
- For autumn and winter: wool ties and silk-wool ties, with a matte texture that looks great with knitwear.
The best knot
The simple four-in-hand knot: it is small, slightly asymmetric and natural, and it is the easiest to tie. Avoid very large knots, which look too formal.
